Hey CARPers!
Time flies when you’re working your butt off, eh? Unfortunately, none of that work has been comic work. I’ve been trying to decide whether to quit, restart or just keep going. Quitting, while by far the easiest option, isn’t really an option. I love CARP, I love the characters and the story (I swear there is one) and I want to stick with it, even though it means a butt-ton of work (that being an Imperial butt-ton, not metric). I want to start over and tell the story with more depth and at a slightly slower pace, but I will save that for the future book(s). And so, through the process of elimination, we’ve come to “just keep going”. Here’s the problem with that:
I hate being late. Really. But not for the reasons you may think. You see, if I put the comic up just a few hours late, it’s not so bad. People know that I was working right up to the last moment and, if the comic doesn’t look busted, they’ll forgive me if it’s once in a while. If I’m late by a week or so, there needs to be a genuinely good reason for it and the quality of the late page needs to be better to reflect the greater amount of work which should have gone into it. But when I’m six months late or more? And not inclined toward blogging because I’ve seriously nothing to say? How do I recover from that? There is this huge (mostly imagined) pressure to make it up to you guys and I really can’t do that.
So I’m going to keep going as if I’ve started over and this whole thing was planned. The story will be picking up where it left off with a similar style (though drawn entirely by me) as soon as the next few pages are done. I *need* to get ahead or this will never work. If I can get enough ahead there will be no interruption for school in the Fall. But I expect a heavy workload again and cannot make any guarantees.
If you’re reading this, you have my deepest and most sincere thanks. I cannot express how much I appreciate your sticking with us. Thank you for, at the very least, not removing us from your bookmarks/RSS. I swear I’ll make it worth the wait. You will all be seeing some changes to the site over the course of the next few weeks as Gene gets his own section as well as a general uptick in activity here.
Changes:
There will be CARP-related art and/or a blog post every week from here on in. It may not be a comic, but there will be something.
Gene will be posting short stories and snippets from his forthcoming novel as well as whatever nonsense (or sense) issues forth from his mind.
I’m going to remove all of the non-comic-page-artwork from the front page and place it on the appropriate pages. At the moment, it’s just interrupting continuity and it’s annoying! So everything will have, and be in, its place.
I am still working with the marvelous Chella to rebuild the site, but we’re not in any rush there. We both agree it will be best to take our time on it.
Comic will resume when it resumes and there will be much rejoicing in the camp.
Chryss
